Park aerobics is a music-based group workout that ward offices and sports councils run for free in parks. Right now, Siheung’s Baegot Life Park runs it on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings at 8 pm through November 13, and Seoul Plaza and parks in Gwangju’s Seo-gu run it too. You follow an instructor, and you don’t need special workout wear. Here are the days, times and sign-up details for each place. Checked on 2026-10-20.

What is park aerobics?

Aerobics is a workout where you follow set moves to music. In a park program, an instructor usually leads from the front and participants follow in rows. A Seoul Media Hub account of a Seoul Plaza session says families, passersby and tourists joined an energetic instructor’s aerobics class and everyone followed at their own pace.

The appeal is that you can start lightly, with no gym membership or equipment. The three places below were all confirmed from news reports or official descriptions.

Where you can go now

Siheung: “Run & Walk Aerobics” at Baegot Life Park

According to a Newsview report on October 11:

  • Dates: September 14 to November 13, 2026
  • Days and time: every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8 pm
  • Place: the Saengmyeong Bridge plaza on the Haean-ro side of Baegot Life Park
  • Cost: free
  • No sessions: public holidays and rainy days
  • Sign-up: first-timers can register in advance or fill in a form on site. Any resident can join.
  • Organizers: the Baegot 1-dong sports association runs it, with support from Siheung’s sports council budget program, the city and the city council. People from young adults to seniors take part, and about 100 attend regularly.

Seoul: “Exercising Seoul Plaza”

Per Seoul Media Hub (May 18):

  • Time: 7–8 pm
  • Season: May to October, excluding the hottest and coldest periods
  • Place: in front of the permanent stage at Seoul Plaza, near City Hall Station
  • How to join: advance sign-up is available and same-day on-site registration is accepted too. No special workout wear is required.
  • Program: besides aerobics there is a main workout, a new-sports zone and a challenge program. The regular day is Thursday evening.
  • On-site facilities: a reception desk, bag storage, first aid and changing space.

Gwangju: parks in Seo-gu

According to the Seo-gu office announcement (April 15), classes run from April to November.

  • Twice a week in the evening: outdoor exercise classes to music (aerobics) at places such as Ssanghak Children’s Park, Majae Neighborhood Park and Mareuk Neighborhood Park.
  • Three times a week, dawn and evening: aerobics classes at Sangmu Citizens’ Park, May 18 Memorial Park, Pungam Community Sports Park, Beodeul Neighborhood Park and along the Gwangju Stream in Dongcheon-dong and Gwangcheon-dong.

Many programs end by November. Siheung runs through November 13 and Gwangju Seo-gu through November. Check the ward office or sports council notice for the day you plan to go.

Finding a program near you

In other areas, search for “[district name] community sports aerobics” or “[park name] aerobics” in Korean. They are often posted in ward office or city sports council news and neighborhood notices. Like the three above, programs usually have set dates, days and places, and many skip rainy days, so check whether it runs in the rain.

First-timer’s kit

Marker illustration of cushioned sneakers, a water bottle, a light jacket and a speaker icon, labeled first-time kit

  • Cushioned sneakers: you’re moving constantly, so a soft sole is comfortable.
  • A bottle of water: it’s a workout that gets you sweating.
  • A jacket that’s easy to take off: evenings in a park are chilly, and you warm up quickly.
  • Time for the form: at places like Siheung where first-timers fill in a form, arrive a little early.
  • Start in the back row: if the moves are new, stay in the back and follow the instructor.
  • Mind your filming: if you record video, keep other participants’ faces out of it.
