If you like planning autumn around small pleasures, here is a very specific dilemma: a bag full of bread, or a bag full of stationery?

The Daejeon Bread Festival and Seoul’s Sagak Sagak Pen Fest are both on the October radar. They promise different kinds of browsing, but the same danger of coming home with considerably more than you planned to buy.

Daejeon: a bakery crawl in one place

Seoul: Sagak Sagak Pen Fest

The exhibition listing puts Sagak Sagak Pen Fest on October 17–18, 2026, at Community House Masil, 14 Myeongdong 11-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul. Stationery is a wonderfully tactile purchase. A photo can show you a pen’s color, but it cannot tell you how it sits in your hand. Where samples are available, take your time. A notebook you enjoy writing in is a better souvenir than a stack bought because everyone else seemed excited.

I would bring a small wishlist: the notebook size I actually use, an ink color I am missing, and a budget. That last one is easy to forget in a room full of lovely paper.

Choosing your outing

For a food-focused trip, keep Daejeon on your list. For a central Seoul day built around writing supplies, start with Pen Fest. Trying both could work once the bread festival’s final schedule is clear, but leave time for transfers, queues and a proper break.

The nicest version of either day leaves room to sit down and enjoy what you bought. A pastry and a few pages in a new notebook would be a pretty good ending.
