How the show is organized

According to MMCA, this is a large solo show by Do Ho Suh, one of Korea’s leading installation artists. It covers his work from early pieces to major works and ongoing projects. He has explored migration and dwelling, the individual and the community, and the questions of space, memory and identity.

Rather than split the works by theme, the show lets these elements reflect on each other:

  • Early and recent work
  • Drawings and installations
  • Home and body
  • Space and time

It also includes early works and drawings shown for the first time.

Works introduced in the audio guide

The audio guide has 12 sections and supports captions. The works it introduces include:

  • Nest/s (2024): an installation in polyester fabric and stainless steel
  • Small Door, Seongbuk-dong, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul
  • Rubbing/Loving: the Seoul house, the Gwangju Theater staff residence and West 22nd Street in New York
  • Perfect Home: London, Horsham, New York, Berlin, Providence and Seoul
  • Bridge Project, Inverted Monument and Memory of Love (with Re;Code), among others

A brochure and a PDF of the Bridge Project newspaper are also listed as related materials.

Programs alongside the show

  • Education programs: workshops such as “Drawing a House with Thread” (Aug 28–30) and “Recording Memory with Light” (Aug 29) were held.
  • Membership events: a morning museum walk on Do Ho Suh runs September 11 to December 12.
  • Membership perks: points on admission payments and lounge and parking benefits. MMCA notes that its membership program is being revised.

Getting there

The museum is beside Gyeongbokgung, a former royal palace in central Seoul. MMCA gives a walking route from Anguk Station, Exit 1, on subway Line 3 (MMCA Seoul directions). The exhibition uses two levels, so leave time to move between them. Follow staff guidance about photographs, touching works and entering installations.
