Jamsugyo Bridge has been closed to all cars since midnight on October 26, 2026, but you can still cross it on foot or by bike. The bridge, which opened in 1976 as the ninth bridge over the Han River, is being turned into a walk-only bridge. Seoul’s target is August 2027. Checked: 2026-10-26

What kind of bridge is it?
Jamsugyo is a low bridge, 795 m long, just under the much taller Banpo Bridge. You’re close to the water, which makes it feel very different from other Han River bridges. In 2008, two of its four lanes were turned into paths for walkers and cyclists, and more recently it has hosted events such as the car-free “Duk-duk walking festival” (Ttubeok-ttubeok).
What’s coming
- 22 viewpoints: new rest and viewing spots on the walk-only bridge.
- 2 glass decks: in the two sections where boats pass, you’ll see the river through the floor.
- Wider walkways: the walking deck is being expanded by August 2027.
- North-end underpass: the car tunnel at the Yongsan end becomes a pedestrian space, linking toward Itaewon, Yongsan Park and the river park.

Expect a full closure of about six weeks between May and August 2027. During paving, even walkers and cyclists must use Banpo Bridge. Check Seoul’s notices before you go then.
How to enjoy it now
- Sunset walk: start at Banpo Hangang Park and walk toward Seobinggo. The river is close and the light is soft at golden hour.
- Bike ride: much calmer without cars. Follow the signs around work zones.
- Dress warm: the river wind is strong in late autumn.
- Buses: routes 740 and 405 now use Banpo Bridge in both directions. The “Banpo Hangang Park·Sebitseom” stops are closed. Use “Banpo Bridge South End·Hangang Citizens Park Entrance” instead.
Good for
- Anyone after a free, pretty walk in Seoul
- People who want to be close to the Han River
- Photo fans who want before-and-after shots
