Maenggae Village in Andong is reached by tractor across the Nakdong River, and the Hahoe Seonyu Julbulnori fire show has two regular shows left, on Saturdays October 24 and 31. Maenggae is booking-only, so pairing the two makes a good overnight plan. Here are the stay and tour details for Maenggae and the ticket and rain rules for the fire show. Checked on 2026-10-20.

What is Maenggae Village?
It sits on Gasong-gil in Dosan-myeon, Andong, North Gyeongsang. According to a Harper’s Bazaar Korea feature (October 11, 2023), the Nakdong River wraps around the whole village, so you have to cross the water to enter, and it lies under the ridge of Cheongnyangsan. A buckwheat field spreads across more than 30,000 pyeong, and the family of owner Park Seong-ho is described as the only residents.
The way in is unusual too. At your booked time you go to a meeting spot, board a tractor waiting there, and cross the river to the village.

You can’t enter without a booking. For a day visit, search for “Maenggae Village Farm Picnic” to book, or call before you go.
The Jinmaek soju distillery
According to Harper’s Bazaar, the owners founded the distillery Maenggae Sooldoga in 2019 and make Jinmaek (wheat) soju from organic wheat they grow themselves.
- Jinmaek Soju 53%
- Poet’s Rock 54.5: aged in oak for two years or more.
Both are said to have won the top rating, a Double Gold Medal, at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC).
What can you do there?
- There are distillery tours, farm picnics (a day program) and farm stays (overnight).
- The Korea Tourism Organization listing says each season has its own activity: wheat fields in spring, Nakdong River play in summer, buckwheat flowers and autumn leaves in autumn, and ice play on the river in winter.
- The farm stay is described as a place to see the Milky Way over the village.
- As of the October 2023 report, prices were ₩35,000 for the distillery tour, ₩20,000 for the farm picnic and from ₩210,000 for one night at the farm stay. Prices can change, so check again when you book.

What is the Hahoe Seonyu Julbulnori?
It is held by Andong city, the Korea Spirit and Culture Foundation and the Hahoe Village Preservation Society. A rope is strung over the Nakdong River between Buyongdae and Manssongjeong in Hahoe Village, and charcoal-powder pouches hung from it are lit so sparks fall like rain, in a traditional fire show. According to Herald Business (April 13), a performance by the Andong Municipal Chorus and a Hahoe Byeolsin mask dance come before the main event.
- Julbul (rope fire): charcoal pouches strung along a rope between two points burn in a line.
- Nakhwa (falling sparks): sparks fall below the Buyongdae cliff.
- Dalgyalbul (egg lights): small lights drift along the river.
- Seonyu (boat outing): recreates the old tradition of floating boats for leisure.
There are ten regular shows from May to October this year. According to a blog roundup as of September 30, they fall on May 2, May 23, August 29, September 12, September 26, October 3, October 10, October 17, October 24 and October 31. The remaining shows are October 24 and 31, and October 31 is the last regular one. A separate product called Hahoe Yaeon (₩30,000 per person, limited to 1,000) was held on October 4.
